All-In Nation: Building a Just Economy. 10.30.13. PART II: Equity as an Economic Imperative
All-In Nation: Building a Just Economy, was an event hosted by the Ford Foundation in New York City on October 30, 2013. Award-winning journalist Soledad O’Brien interviewed Gary Segura of Latino Decisions and Ruy Teixeira of the Center for American Progress (CAP) about a new poll on diversity and America’s future. Panelists in sessions moderated by Angela Glover Blackwell, founder and CEO of PolicyLink, and Neera Tanden, President of CAP, explored equitable policies that are key to our nation’s future prosperity, including many presented in the new book from PolicyLink and CAP, All-In Nation: An America that Works for All. PART II: Equity as an Economic Imperative Equity has traditionally been a moral imperative—an issue of fairness and justice. But a confluence of factors including the growth of communities of color, new economic research on inequality and growth, and the bottom-line value of diversity are making inclusion an economic imperative in addition to a moral one. This panel of economists, business leaders, and workforce experts explores the economic and business case for equity. Moderator: Angela Glover Blackwell, PolicyLink Panelists: Heather Boushey, Center for American Progress Stephen DeBerry, Bronze Investments Nicole Smith, Georgetown Center for Education and the Workforce Jason Young, Hidden Genius Project.
