Standing Together in the Face of Hurricane Helene
and the Conyers BioLab Explosion

As our communities endure the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene and the recent explosion at the BioLab chemical plant in Conyers, Georgia, the Partnership for Southern Equity (PSE) and its Just Energy Portfolio stands with those affected by these dual crises. We acknowledge the severe disruptions to daily life, the disproportionate burden these events have on historically marginalized communities, and the urgent need for equitable access to resources during this time of crisis.

At PSE’s Just Energy Portfolio, we are deeply committed to addressing energy and environmental injustices, and this moment calls for decisive action. Our priority is to ensure that all communities—especially those already bearing the brunt of systemic inequities—have access to the support they need for immediate relief and long-term recovery.

We are focused on:

  1. Delivering Immediate Relief: Our Just Energy team is mobilizing with organizations on the ground to provide direct, unrestricted financial assistance to individuals and families impacted by these disasters. We believe that people know their needs best, and we are committed to ensuring that relief is given without barriers.
  2. Connecting Communities to Critical Resources: Navigating disaster recovery can be overwhelming. We are here to connect affected residents to essential resources, from emergency energy assistance to housing, healthcare, and food access. Our team is working to bridge the gap between communities and the vital services they need.
  3. Advocating for Equitable Recovery: Natural and man-made disasters often expose the deep inequities within our systems. We will continue to advocate for a just and equitable recovery process that centers the voices and needs of frontline communities. Through our policy work and community engagement, we aim to ensure that no one is left behind in the rebuilding process.

In this time of unprecedented challenge, we are reminded of the power of community and the importance of standing together. At PSE’s Just Energy Portfolio, we are here to support, uplift, and advocate for equitable solutions that will allow our communities to heal, rebuild, and emerge stronger.
