Partnership for Southern Equity Selected for Tech To The Rescue Foundation’s AI for Changemakers Program

The Partnership for Southern Equity (PSE) is pleased to announce that it has been selected for the second Impact Cohort of the Tech To The Rescue Foundation’s AI for Changemakers Accelerator Program. This program is supported by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google.org. AI for Changemakers is a global accelerator for AI innovators and nonprofits working to solve the world’s pressing challenges.

PSE was one of 30 outstanding nonprofits selected for the cohort because of their dedication to advancing climate action. They represent a diverse range of climate-focused initiatives, each ready to leverage AI for substantial environmental impact and are now poised to amplify their impact through innovative AI solutions.

Through the cohort, PSE will have the opportunity to develop innovative AI solutions to accelerate energy equity efforts through its Just Energy Portfolio –  an equity ecosystem of frontline communities, subject-matter experts, and other groups and individuals organizing together to engage marginalized communities and communities of color about the sourcing and commodification of power generation in Georgia.

“It is truly an honor to receive this capacity building opportunity,” said PSE’s founder and Chief Equity Officer, Nathaniel Smith. “It is important that organizations like PSE remain on the cutting edge of innovations that strengthen our ability to fight for climate justice. We look forward to collaborating with experts from around the world to ensure more equitable energy policy and co-create clean energy solutions that benefit everyone.”

As part of the three-year accelerator program, PSE’s Just Energy team will receive support from AI specialists and mentors in the following areas:

  • Access to a global network of mentors and AI experts from the AI for Changemakers community.
  • 7-week AI Bootcamp starting in September 2024, led by AWS, Google, IDEO, Netguru, focusing on enhancing tech and AI skills and scoping valuable AI projects.
  • AI Sandbox Experience where participants will receive pro-bono support from tech companies to develop custom AI solutions.
  • Customized AI innovations aimed at driving significant climate action on a global scale.

PSE’s vision is to use technology to streamline funding access, map energy burdens, and connect people with climate-positive projects. They are also focused on leveraging data-driven storytelling and improving community representation through AI.
