You’re Invited to the Just Energy Summit 2018

By Taylor Lee, PSE communications intern (Summer 2018), Hampton University (2019)

If you are a scholar, activist, or community organizer the Just Energy Summit 2018 is perfect for you. The two-day forum’s goal is to inspire change agents to be more vocal around equity and energy regulation in the American South. The event will take place on Friday, September 21, and Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA.

The keynote speaker is Denise Fairchild Ph.D., and she is accompanied by panelists Todd Greene and Odetta MacLeish-White. Dr. Fairchild is the President & CEO of Emerald Cities Collaborative and co-author of Energy Democracy. Mr. Greene is the Executive Director of the Atlanta University Center Consortium, and Ms. White is the Managing Director of the TransFormation Alliance.

“The clean-energy transition is as profound and disruptive to the status quo as the changes in the music and telecommunications industries. And it’s exciting! It can strengthen our energy, economic and health security. That’s a vision that minority communities fully support — and our leaders should too,” said Dr. Fairchild in a Governing article. These are some of the exciting topics that Dr. Fairchild will touch on at the summit this year.

We would not be able to put on this event without our wonderful sponsors: MacArthur Foundation, Southern Environmental Law Center, Ray C. Anderson, Turner Foundation, and Kresge Foundation. We thank them for their continued and consistent support.

When the Just Energy Summit was first held in 2016, we had more than 150 attendees and our goal is to double attendance this year. And we need your help. You can support us in various ways.

Finally, if you are interested in receiving a scholarship for the summit, please visit our scholarship page before applications close on August17, 2018. We look forward to seeing you at the Just Energy Summit 2018, September 21-22, 2018, at Morehouse College!
