Partnership for Southern Equity to host Coastal Georgia Disaster Preparedness and Resiliency Meetings

ATLANTA — In January 2023, the Atlanta-based Partnership for Southern Equity (PSE) and its Just Energy Portfolio were awarded $10,000 from the Southern Climate & Energy Network (SCEN) as part of their Southern Communities Tour to purchase crucial disaster preparedness kits and related supplies.

The Coastal Georgia Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Relief Program is designed to benefit residents in Glynn and Chatham counties. The goals of the program are:

1. Establish relationships with communities, developing trust, and providing the necessary tools and resources required for people to successfully champion their own interests.

2. Decrease the impact of hurricanes and flood damage in Chatham and Glynn counties.

3. Build disruption systems advocates for public policy and protect them from adverse weather conditions.

4. Build civic infrastructure and pursue state policy to protect community interests.

In July 2023 PSE, in partnership with communities in Glynn and Chatham counties, provided through the program 500 disaster kits totaling over $8,000 in direct assistance to marginalized and black, indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC) communities in the preparation and aftermath of Hurricane Idalia in August 2023. In addition to direct services, the program provides education to further engage the community  in disaster preparedness and climate resilience.
